People have been intrigued about Fuþark runes for centuries as their symbolism and meaning have been shrouded in mystery. They were, of course, used in witchcraft and to foresee the future but they were also the main method of writing and recording before the Latin writing systems made their way into Northern Europe. Infused with Norse mythology, the Fuþark runes still serve as a vital key to the cultural heritage of the Icelandic people. Runes: The Icelandic Book of Fuþark introduces three different but related forms of runic systems in a chronological order: the Elder Fuþark, the Younger Fuþark and the Icelandic Fuþark. The book is based on academic studies but presents the three runic systems in an accessible manner, allowing the readers to delve deeper into the meaning of each individual rune as well as gaining a better understanding of how the runic system have evolved.
